The Luminous Mysteries

The Luminous Mysteries, traditionally prayed on Thursdays, focus on the public ministry of Jesus Christ. These mysteries shed light on key moments in Jesus’ life where He revealed His divinity and the Kingdom of God.

Pray the Rosary

1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross.

2. Holding the crucifix, pray the Apostles’ Creed.

3. On the first bead, pray the Our Father.

4. On the next three beads, pray three Hail Marys for an increase in faith, hope, and charity.

5. On the fifth bead, pray the Glory Be.

6. Announce the First Luminous Mystery: The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan
Reflect on Jesus being baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River, marking the beginning of His public ministry and revealing Him as the Son of God.
Scripture: “And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.'” (Matthew 3:17)
Then pray the Our Father.

7. Pray ten Hail Marys while meditating on the First Luminous Mystery.

8. Pray the Glory Be, followed by the Fatima Prayer.

9. Announce the Second Luminous Mystery: The Wedding at Cana
Consider the first miracle of Jesus at the wedding in Cana, where He turned water into wine, revealing His divine power and compassion.
Scripture: “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” (John 2:5)
Then pray the Our Father.

10. Pray ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Second Luminous Mystery.

11. Pray the Glory Be, followed by the Fatima Prayer.

12. Announce the Third Luminous Mystery: The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God
Meditate on Jesus’ preaching and teaching, proclaiming the Kingdom of God and calling for repentance and faith.
Scripture: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)
Then pray the Our Father.

13. Pray ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Third Luminous Mystery.

14. Pray the Glory Be, followed by the Fatima Prayer.

15. Announce the Fourth Luminous Mystery: The Transfiguration
Reflect on the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor, where He revealed His divine glory to Peter, James, and John.
Scripture: “And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.” (Matthew 17:2)
Then pray the Our Father.

16. Pray ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Fourth Luminous Mystery.

17. Pray the Glory Be, followed by the Fatima Prayer.

18. Announce the Fifth Luminous Mystery: The Institution of the Eucharist
Contemplate the institution of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper, where Jesus gave us His Body and Blood as spiritual nourishment.
Scripture: “Take and eat; this is my body… Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant.” (Matthew 26:26-28)
Then pray the Our Father.

19. Pray ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Fifth Luminous Mystery.

20. Pray the Glory Be, followed by the Fatima Prayer.

21. After completing all five mysteries, pray the Hail Holy Queen.

22. Finish with the Sign of the Cross.
